What do you do if one of your family collapses, the persons life expectancy can now be measured in seconds and your actions will now decide whether they live or die.

All the people at the Red Cross Bantry Defibrillator Group know they can answer this question but one of them may not be there when you or one of your loved ones collapses.

The Red Cross Bantry Defibrillator Group with help from many individuals and local groups have stationed Defibrillators (AED’s) in the Bantry area.  We also have about 40 people trained to use them who are willing to go to the aid of a person who has collapsed.

In the event of a collapse you should phone 999 or 112 for an ambulance FIRST.

You can also ask Ambulance Control to send the Defibrillation Group.

Or you can phone us directly on

 1800 277 233    [1800 CPR AED]

BUT the best chance of survival your collapsed Family member or Friend would have would be if you knew how to do CPR and use an AED.

So come and join the Red Cross Bantry AED Group.  It could save a life.

John Connolly

Chairman Red Cross Bantry AED Group.

Recently a box, which contains a life saving defibrillator positioned outside Supervalu, was vandalised. The bottom half of the box, belonging to the Red Cross Bantry A.E.D Group, which had instructions on what to do if someone collapses, was ripped off. A spokesman for the group said "To think that information on how to save a life were torn off is a disgrace. If someone were to need the defibrillator how would their friends ring the group to get help". This isn't the first incident involving vandals and defibrillators. Last year, a defibrillator was stolen from Skibbereen. "It just goes to show what respect for life some people have" The spokesman added
