The accompanying request for assistance speaks for itself and deserves our consideration. The service will work for West Cork generally and needs volunteer drivers to serve once a month on routes from Clonakilty, Castletown Beare, Skibbereen and Bantry to UHC in Cork.
Please draw it to the attention of your club members and contact Helen directly if you can help.
A Cháirde,
Cancer Connect is a free and flexible transport service to cork hospitals from West Cork for people receiving cancer treatments (radiotherapy, chemotherapy etc.). The service is available five days per week Monday to Friday. The project is supported by West Cork Rural Transport which is a registered charity ( CHY 15469) and a not for profit company. Drivers are volunteers, and the kindness and goodwill shown to all passengers is invaluable.
For those that require radiotherapy, there is a scheduled service that runs through Skibbereen daily at 10.15 am and brings passengers directly to CUH. The hospital supports Cancer Connect, and will schedule all treatments between 12-1 pm, allowing a quick turnaround time. Once finished treatment, passengers will be brought directly back to Skibbereen.
For those that require chemotherapy, or related appointments, volunteer drivers take passengers to Cork on an individual basis, at the allocated appointment time. The driver will wait in Cork, and bring the passenger home again on completion of treatment. Individual transport is comfortable and flexible.
The passenger may require a family member to travel with them, this is both facilitated and encouraged. Both services are completely confidential.
